Aqsa Shafeeq

Aqsa was referred to us at age 12 when she was in 6th grade. She was the oldest of 4 siblings. Her father, a fruit vendor, died when she was 8. Her mother started cleaning houses to support the family. She was attending a religious school on the path to marriage at a young age without any continuation of education. Her future would have been as a housewife or a maid.

With the support of the Helping Hand Organization, Aqsa was given financial aid to attend a government English school. She learned to speak english and finished her high school with honors and with a focuss in business. She went on to complete 2 years of college.

Aqsa is currently married to an engineer and has a job in a local bank. They live in their own 2 bedroom home and have the financial stability to continue to provide for their household and educational needs for their children.

Shajida Ahmed

Shajida was referred to us as mother of three children who was thrown out her house with her kids when she divorced her abusive husband. She was living in a single room dwelling with her widowed mother. She was doing needlework for income, and her children were not attending school.

With the support of the Helping Hand Organization, her childred received financial aid to attend school. Shajida received food rations and a new roof, so she didn't have to work and was able to further her own education. She was given a laptop when she entered college to major in business.

She is currently finishing her bachelor of commerce degree and then will be looking for a job to support her family.
